1969 Chris Craft Commander - 'The Stroller '
Owner: David Gaeger
Home Port: Elmhurst, IL

The Stroller is a 1969 Chris Craft Commander 23. The Commander 23 was designed by the legendary boat designer, Dick Avery. His goal was to create a fiberglass runabout that mimicked the style and beauty of Chris Craft’s previous wooden models.

My family purchased the boat in 1988 and it has moored in Williams Bay ever since. Our restoration project included a full engine rebuild, new navy and white paint design, a reconfiguration of the seating arrangement, custom flooring, and new upholstery that pays homage to the boat’s original baby blue color.

The boat’s name, The Stroller, was given as a tribute to the name of the pub at the center of our family’s town in Ballyneety Ireland, and Her ability to rock any young child to sleep with the rumble of Her engine. The Stroller is no “trailer queen.” Our family is proud to say that She is our weekly-user and is on the water for countless hours every week.

1947 Chris Craft U22 - 'RIFF RAFT'
Owner: Calvin Seith
Home Port: Glen Ellyn, IL

RIFF RAFT was completed on September 9th 1947 and is a Chris Craft U22 (Hull Number 998), with cedar planking on the hull and cedar ceiling boards in the interior which gives these boats a gorgeous three-tone look with the mahogany decks. She was originally sent to a dealership in Lakeport New Hampshire at Lake Winnipesaukee, and we know that she has also lived in New York, Michigan and California. RIFF RAFT has a pre-war flat folding windshield from a 1939 utility, and the pre-war Chris Craft script on the hull to match. She was repowered at some point after the late 1960's with a 350 V8, which gives her outstanding performance on the water, and a wonderful rumble at cocktail cruising speed. Last year we trailered the RIFF RAFT all over the country reaching as far as the Lake of the Ozarks, the Thousand Islands on the Saint Lawrence River, and the Adirondack mountains in Upstate New York. She was restored in 2008 by the Fox Valley Boat Company and was given a 5200 bottom, and was beautifully restored this last winter by Motor Boat Garage in Cincinnati Ohio.

1940 Chris Craft Deluxe Utility - 'Wooden Nickols'
Owner: Tom Nickols
Home Port: Lake Geneva, WI

Wooden Nickols, a 22-foot Deluxe Utility was shipped from Algonac to Hessel, Michigan in June 1940. The owner of the Hessel grocery store purchased the boat to deliver groceries to summer residents on the surrounding islands, naming her Calli Sue after his granddaughter. The boat was acquired by an Ohio family and moved to Indian Lake, Ohio and renamed Smoove. We originally understood this was because of how, Smoove the boat went through the water. It was actually how Jackie Gleason's character in the Homeymooner's described how his cocktails went down, 'Smoove". The boat was moved to Iowa and received a new 5200 bottom and fresh varnish. Renamed Traveler it hit the road visiting a number of boat shows. The boat was relocated to Geneva Lake in 2007 and renamed Wooden Nickols. In frontier day's paper money was moved by stage coach, coins however were too unwieldy to ship. Local merchants banded together and "issued" nickels. dimes and quarters in wood. A merchant's life was short, so every few years the current crop of businesses would issue new coins and stop honoring the old ones. Hence the saying, "don't take any wooden nickels."

1937 Chris Craft Sportsman - 'Leading Lady '
Owner: Charles Wegner
Home Port: Williams Bay, WI

Chris Craft only built 12 twin engine Prewar Sportsman Utilities from 1936-1941. Production by year was: 1936 - 1, 1937-5, 1938 - 4, 1939 - 2. Of these 12, one was delivered to London in the summer of 1938 and may have been destroyed during WWII. Leading Lady is boat number 2 of the remaining 11 and was the first one out the factory door on March 7, 1937. At this time, we are only aware of 3 surviving prewar twins. Like many restorations, this boat was found in a barn, in Peoria, Illinois in November 1998 after a 4 year search and has been in restoration ever since. After almost 40 years of drydock, Leading Lady won "Best in Class" in the prestigious "Keels & Wheels" boat show in Texas in May 2023.

2007 Stancraft Lowboy 31 Deluxe
Owner: Christopher Bales
Home Port: St Francis, WI

This boat was originally built at the factory in Post Falls, Idaho in 2007, commissioned to be a tender on a super yacht in the Mediterranean.  After several years on the Med, the yacht was sold and the Stancraft made its way back to the factory in Idaho where she underwent a complete rebuild in 2023.  The rebuild included refinishing of all the wood, new chrome, and a re-power to an Ilmore 570HP V8 with a dual prop stern drive.  I saw the boat in a showroom in 2024 while on a business trip to Coeur d’Alene and purchased it shortly after.  The boat arrived in Milwaukee early this May and I currently have it on a slip at McKinley Marina in Milwaukee on Lake Michigan.
